Expedia Group research conducted together with Luth Research and ZQ Intelligence shows that travelers spend more than five hours engaging with travel-related content in the 45 days leading up to a booking.

This time is rarely spent in one sitting. Instead, research is spread across short moments throughout the day. Travelers scroll through destinations during a commute, revisit accommodation options in the evening, and compare prices again days later. Ideas are saved, forgotten, rediscovered, and reconsidered. The same villas or hotels are often viewed multiple times as travelers move back and forth between inspiration and evaluation.

This extended research period reflects how important the booking decision has become. Travel is no longer just about choosing a destination; it is about making sure that time, money, and expectations align. Travelers want confidence that their choice will deliver the experience they imagine. As a result, booking decisions are rarely impulsive. They are shaped slowly through repeated exposure to content, reassurance from reviews, and constant comparison.

Modern travel planning is therefore less about speed and more about certainty. The longer journey is not a sign of indecision, but of careful consideration in an environment where options are endless and trust must be earned.
